We all have that one place in the world we’ve been dreaming of travelling to ever since a kid. It might be lying in the warm, soft sands of Hawaii, or eating buttery, flakey croissants in Paris, or even hustling down the busy city streets of Tokyo. Now that you’ve said yes to your perfect wedding dress, it’s time to pack your bags to travel to your dream wedding destination. Here are some options and tips you could follow to keep your wedding dress in tip top condition.

1. Take it on the plane as a personal carry-on item, and carry it in your arms.

This is what most brides will do, and you can lay it flat in the overhead bin. Ensure that your dress is on top of other suit cases, or if possible have a row to yourself. Some airlines will have a closet for you to hang the dress however, you might need to check with your airline prior to see if they have this option available for you.

2. Pack your wedding dress with you in a carry-on suitcase.

If you decide on this option, you can keep your dress in the garment bag provided, remove the hanger, and fold it 4-6 times to neatly so it fits into your carry-on luggage. Be super careful not to bend the boning if your dress (as it may warp your bodice). The softer parts of the fabric can be steamed out. Do not check your wedding dress during travel, and always have your eye on the prize (your dress!).

Once You Arrive…

Yay! After a long journey, you need to let you wedding dress out to breathe! Spot test the steamer somewhere else before you start on your wedding dress just in case the steamer needs to be cleaned. When steaming your wedding dress, you need to steam each layer, starting from the inside and then on the outer layers.

And there ya go! It’s as easy as that. As long as you treat it with care during the ride and steam it thoroughly, you’ll be shining in your wedding dress on your big wedding day.
